The use of compact specimens to determine the fracture toughness anisotropy Ti–6Al–4V additively manufactured for repair by directed energy deposition (DED) technique via thin was thoroughly investigated microstructure examination and test. One characteristic DED is due local heating build direction. were originally part an study where AM material added already existing mild heat treated wrought bar. To understand intrinsic in build, small size machined from halved Ti repaired specimens. crack mouth opening displacements measured using digital image correlation (DIC). mechanical testing supported with direct current potential drop (DCPD) monitor formation growth cracks. gain insights into failure mechanisms microscopic characteristics, polished sections fractured surfaces examined. samples compared annealed relations features. Hence, depended on orientation notch perpendicular layer possessing higher toughness. configuration layers found slightly than Ti–6Al–4V, respectively.
